saturday stitches

Today was a fine excuse for some quilting friends to get together for sewing, lunch at a chat.
We were greeted at the door by this ....
The "Wedding Quilt" is for Bernadette's son and new daughter-in-law who were married earlier this year. The design is based on an antique quilt in "For Purpose and Pleasure" .
The centre panel was signed by the bride, groom and wedding party, appliquéd tulips of the original design were replaced with waratahs, the state emblem of NSW.
Plain linen squares were signed by wedding guests and pieced into the blocks.  The bride loves green, so a multitude of greens have been used throughout the quilt. While we were in Melbourne we found lots of small pieces of green fabric at Amitie which have been used in the scrappy sashing strips. It's really lifted the quilt from the traditional and given it a modern, fresh zing don't you think?

Further ooh's and aaah's were heard  when Maree brought out her frame quilt....
Mariners compass, rings of hexagon rosettes, jockeys caps and hexagon swags... swoon...
 Love, love love jockey caps....
This is the final border.... based on the George III quilt at the V&A....

This week I've been drafting up lots of circle patterns for Jane...

9" squares for the next frame.... only 17 more to do...
Baby 5 1/2" circles for the four corners...this one still needs his little outer ring...1 down 3 to go.

Hope you find some time for sewing this weekend.
I'm off to watch the Rugby...Australia v Ireland....aussie, aussie aussie, oi oi oi!!!
