Allow me to translate:
Large hexagon purse made by Brigitte Giblin...in fact made by "moi" and designed by Brigitte.
At last! A finish!
It feels like I have been slogging away on what is now being termed by certain friends "The Whinge Quilt" for sooooo long that it feels like I'll never ever finish anything ever again ever in my whole life (get the picture?....whiney whiney Kate).
So this week after a delightful visit weekendbeforelast with the talented Brigitte Giblin I have taken a French vacation and made and finished my very own grand sac. Made from one hundred and one 1" hexagons, a bag of scraps, a few evenings and viola! one delightfully roomy purse of approx 11" x 8" to hold any number of sewing goodies.
You'll note it is lined (visualise an attractively manicured hand waving artfully), it has a lovely firm base (I could say unlike mine but I won't go there) and I even made the strap (one painful trip to Spotlight for the swivel clips later..arrrgh!) Brigitte's purse assembly instructions are clear and incredibly easy to follow. The pack came with all instructions, colour photos, the hexagon papers and the metal purse frame. Just add fabric!
I love it.
But wait! There's more...
Feathering the Nest with Vintage Inspired Quilts, Brigitte's new book recently launched at Nantes is a must have if you love vintage-ish quilts. Brigitte's designs interpret antique quilts with a joyfulness that is both inspiring and refreshing.
My next quilt is already picked out.
No affiliation yada yada, just love it. Go to Brigitte's website to order your book and mention you might like the pattern for the grand sac, her website only lists the petit sac (which BTW is just too too cute).
Thank you, you know who you are, for gracefully allowing me to invite myself to meet your friend.
Now back to the whinge quilt!

gorgeous Kate......are you going to the quilt show????
It's beautiful!!
Your purse is stunning, Kate! You did a beautiful job. And it inspires me to get mine done, too. The pattern the petite sac and purse handle have been sitting on my sewing shelf for the past month, while I've been buried under a pile of work deadlines. Got the beautiful book a few weeks ago, too, and was thinking about featuring it in the Prim Quilts and Projects mag. Lots of eye candy there!
Very cute.
An absolute heirloom. Wonderful piece of art.
Oh my!
your purse is so luscious and lovely. I love your combination of fabrics for the little hexies. How cute is that strap with the rik rak - you've outdone yourself.
Can't wait to see the new project, looks like a beautiful book.
The purse looks fabulous! I have seen Brigitte's and really must make one...I love yours!
Oooo - I have no more words, apart from perhaps oh la la:)) and very, very beautiful!! oh, and that spot on (ha) hexagon for the strap!! xo
Love the purse. Your fabric choices are beautiful!! I have been very tempted by that pattern for a while. I didn't know there was a larger purse too. Thank you for letting me know. :)
The book looks great too.
Just beautiful, I want one too. I've been resisting buying that book but it is getting really hard now.
Your bag is gorgeous Kate! I have started joining hexagons together for it but are using the small ones and I put it away for a while, didn't seem to be growing much. Love your fabric choices.
I'm jealous. Its GORRRRRjus. Clever lady.
Well done Kate! Your "grand sac" is gorgeous- and thanks for the plug! Cheers Brigitte Giblin
You're such a hoot Kate! Love the purse and you've reminded me that I have the pattern and hardware to make one, must get it done cause I want one now after seeing yours. I'll be looking out for the book, my favourite is the Aunty Green version.
The hand bag is gorgeous!!! Yay! For a finish!!
What a beautiful finish, the lining, the strap, it's all sooo good. I'm still slogging along on my BTCT, so I know the feeling, 2 borders down, 2 more to go.....
Your bag is gorgeous - I love it!! That's a lot of hexies in a few evenings - it would take me months :0) You will enjoy using it I bet!
Love the bag, but then, I love everything you do, Kate!! I must go order that book right now. Thanks for the heads up.
Hello from chilly Wisconsin! Are you able to tell me where to purchase either the pattern or the kit for this wonderful purse? Thank you, Liz
Liz, Your comments are set to "no-reply" so I am unable to email you. Go to Brigitte's website for the pattern, you are able to download it once payment is approved. The link is in the body of my post.
