holiday ramblings

Season's Greetings! I hope your Christmas was happy and filled with peace, love and joy. Mine was also filled with a little too much dessert and champagne...so consequently the runners are being laced back on and I'm hitting the pavement everyday to try to work it off!!

So what's new? I've been distracted this holiday period by madder brown, copper and cinnamon....

I love star quilts!
These hexagon stars are made with 60 degree diamond papers and have completely taken over my attentions - I'm hooked. Inspired by a wonderful quilt top circa 1870 sold recently on eBay, I decided against purchasing and instead started covering paper diamonds.

I love how the tumbling blocks start appearing once the medium backgrounds kick in against the shirtings. The major challenge for me is to be random - the original quilt  top is very scrappy and although the colour scheme is controlled the fabric associations witin the stars are not planned.
Progress so far...still many more stars to make but they are so fun!

Over the holidays we've had some lovely visitors. One of the great things about living where I do, so close to a large bush reserve, is we are often visited by native birds. This month the Tawny Frogmouths have returned. Here's mum pretending to be a branch.
She's brought her three babies - they are as big as she is but haven't learned the proper camoflage techniques yet.

On Christmas Eve we were entertained by some young Corellas - carrying on like brats, squawking and playing the fool. As soon as they saw me with the camera they started posing - flapping wings and trying to hang upside down...
Here's my Pineapple Lily, it's flowered without being too horribly shredded by the little green caterpillars this year.

Thank you to all for your friendship throughout 2012. I have loved reading your blog posts and your comments on mine - here's to a great year that's past and for a fabulous 2013....
